STAY by Silas Piper - A Review

It’s a story, a plea, and underneath it all, a declaration of love.

‘Stay’ by Silas Piper and Verona (his guitar) is a pop song with afro-fusion influences breathed into it. In many ways, it’s another facet of the ever-evolving Kenyan music scene. You can tell that a true romantic is at work with this one; the choice to give his instrument a writing credit with the song gives it away really. The song draws you in with inviting instrumentals and crooning vocals, but it’s the lyricism that makes you stay. Even if you did not care for the poetry, Verona goes ahead to make her presence known and absolutely steals the show, making her the heart of Stay. (She worked hard to justify that writing credit.)

Listening to this song definitely gave me a bit of 2016 nostalgia (I know it’s time to move on but hey.) It’s short and leaves you wanting more. After a few listens, I’m sure that this will be on my mind for the next few days, but I’m not complaining.

There’s really something about a man on their knees begging you to Stay. If you’re into that sort of thing, you should definitely check it out.
