PRO-CHOICE by El Chi - A Review

When Bing Bong dropped, it wasn't just a single – it was a statement. El Chi stepped into the scene wielding venomous bars and a ferocity Kenyan hip-hop hasn't seen in some time. Her debut wasn’t just about proving she could rap, it was about reshaping the entire conversation about what a Kenyan
female rapper, nay, what a Kenyan rapper could be full-stop.

I had the opportunity to have an early listen of her latest single PRO-CHOICE. The track is blistering and unhinged, showcasing El Chi’s raw lyrical skill. It’s aggressive, it’s chaotic, and somewhat thrilling.

Lyrically, she flexes constantly: clever, witty, biting. She raps with the confidence of someone who knows the industry wasn’t built for her, and still, she’s ready to run it. She has an ease with her pen that most rappers find later in their careers, and this self-satisfaction serves her well here. The track stands out as bold. The beat hits hard. She tears through the track, weaving cocky punchlines and theatrical cadence switches. She spits with purpose, with fire, and with a deep desire to prove she’s not just in the rap game —she’s a force in it.

The length of the song is perfect making you want to hit that replay button again and again.

I’m coming out as pro choice and I’m choosing El Chi as one to watch.
