Creatives Garage
with how heavy this year has been, we didn’t think we’d have a show this month. the first edition of spectra was an intimate celebration and appreciation of the community we’d been able to build in such little time. we were young, enthusiastic, and hopeful. we were a united front, and in that room, on a random saturday night in december, if you listened hard enough, you could hear our hearts beating in sync. this december found us so tired, so fearful, so angry, so devastated. the year has changed us, as years often do, and when we had a conversation on what we could offer the movement, spectra came up. if we did it, we agreed, it would have to be in honor of women: the women we’ve lost to femicide and gender-based violence, the women that are still here – living in constant fear, and the women after us for whom we need to build a better world. this edition of spectra is a celebration and appreciation of womanhood, a reminder of all its joy, beauty, and strength; especially at a time when they want us to forget. it features an all-femme lineup and team (sound, lighting, vendors, etc.), and we will donate 50% of the ticket proceeds to an organization that helps women and children in dire situations. we will confirm which organization soon. as a collective, we aim to curate safe and nurturing spaces for everyone, creative or not. spectra was born out of this desire, aiming to help foster and share love, hope, and joy – love, hope, and joy as communal practices; love, hope, and joy adjacent to, and in spite of, the pain and anger; and love, hope, and joy as the foundation as we build toward a world where every single woman is safe and free. we urge you to march with and for women, donate to causes that support women, listen to women, hire women, love women, and join us as we celebrate women. stay safe! we hope to see you soon. with love, hope, and joy, franscine.
